Walter J. Marullo

Walter Marullo has fifteen years of banking experience with FleetBoston Financial, BankBoston, and Sovereign Bancorp. In the year prior to joining NewStar, Mr. Marullo was a Senior Vice President & Portfolio Management Team Leader within Sovereign Bancorp’s Specialized Industries business, where he managed a team of professionals that underwrote and managed credits, primarily within the non-investment-grade syndicated loan market. In his fourteen years at FleetBoston and BankBoston, Mr. Marullo held a variety of positions of increasing responsibility. Most recently, he was a Managing Director & Portfolio Management Team Leader, where he was responsible for a $3 billion loan portfolio in the environmental services, power generation, and utilities sectors. Prior to that, as a Managing Director & Head of Portfolio Management, he was responsible for FleetBoston’s $6 billion exposure to the food & beverage, consumer products, and for-profit healthcare sectors. In previous positions at FleetBoston and BankBoston, Mr. Marullo structured, executed, and managed leveraged, non-investment-grade loan transactions within the environmental services and for-profit healthcare sectors. He has also served as a credit risk management officer within BankBoston’s derivatives and securities trading business.

Mr. Marullo holds an A.B. from Harvard College and an M.B.A from the Darden School at the University of Virginia. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and a member of the Boston Securities Analyst Society.
