Spectro Inc. Awarded Multi-Year Contract to Supply United States and Allied Armed Forces with Oil Analysis Spectrometer LITTLETON, Massachusetts, U.S.A., January 5, 2000 - Spectro Inc. announced today that it has been awarded a multi-year contract by the U.S. Air Force estimated at 7.8 million U.S. Dollars to supply the SPECTROIL M/N Deployable Oil Analysis Spectrometer. The SPECTROIL Spectrometer is the primary analytical instrument of the U.S. Department of Defense's Joint Oil Analysis Program (JOAP). The U.S. Air Force will purchase the instruments for all branches of the Armed Forces including Foreign Military Sales (FMS). The SPECTROIL M/N is designed to work equally well in the laboratory or in the field, under less than ideal conditions. It is an analytical instrument that detects and quantifies metals in used oils and hydraulic fluids that are indicative of an abnormal condition. The U.S. Armed Forces will utilize the SPECTROIL M/N to help predict mechanical failures in their early stages so corrective action can be taken. Oil analysis has become an extremely successful predictive maintenance tool that greatly improves safety and reduces maintenance costs. This is the second such contract awarded to Spectro Inc. by the U.S. Air Force in the past 5 years. A total of 243 SPECTROILM Spectrometers were delivered to the U.S. Armed Forces in the previous contract, plus an additional 300 to other military and industrial customers. As with the prior contract, the current award to Spectro Inc. was based on lengthy competitive testing that included instrument performance in a variety of environments and conditions. Spectro Inc. is an instrumentation company that specializes in analytical instruments for machine condition monitoring based on oil and fuel analysis.
