About Ann Elkington
Ann Elkington often uses unusual materials to create her unique and beautiful hand drawn maps & illustrations: sandpaper, brewed tea and crumpled wet newspaper. In every map she incorporates a small image relevant to the mapped area.
Her work has been used by many organizations, most notably the National Building Museum in Washington, DC; the Greenfield Community Schools of Dubai; British Schools of America; Sidwell Friends School; US Squash; and the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority. Individual owners of her work include Stanley and Judy Dwan Hallet, Yvonne Saban (Georgetown Day School), Simone Amselli (British School of Washington), and Drs. Bibhuti & Lopa Mishra of Washington, DC.
Born in Pennsylvania, she earned a BFA from the Pennsylvania State University and furthered her studies in Industrial Design at the Manchester Poly in the UK. Ann lives in Washington, DC.
