The backyard of a suburban site was becoming very overgrown, undefined, and unusable. Although the existing patio and garden arrangement was physically cramped and visually cluttered, the house & garage location and the mature trees throughout provided a potentially perfect outdoor living space. The plan called for an expanded patio with sitting wall, reuse of many shrubs, rethinking of all planting bed lines and lawn shape, as well as additional plantings to define the spaces. As an added benefit, the addition of new pear trees respects the history of the site, since the area was once a pear orchard. All of these changes achieved the goal of a more interesting and usable landscape. |
