The masterplan addressed two distinct areas of the site, front and rear, to achieve the style appropriate for each situation. The sunken "L" shaped area behind the house contained elements of an older garden, as well as an area of lawn which lacked a function. The plan called for the reconfiguration of the existing wall, steps, and patio area in order to enhance both the appearance and usability of the space. At the same time the design integrated the unused lawn area by introducing a meandering brick walkway and tree, shrub, and perennial plantings. |
