Spectroil M
Oil Analysis Spectrometers for the Analysis of Wear Metals, Contaminants, and Additives in Lubricants or Gas Turbine Fuels

"Selected as the "next generation" oil analysis spectrometer by the Department of Defense for the Joint Oil Analysis Program (JOAP)"

The Spectroil M Oil Analysis Spectrometer can help you:

  • Detect potential problems
  • Predict failures before they occur
  • Avoid costly repair bills
  • Reduce maintenance costs
  • Cut expensive downtime

If you need to analyze wear metals, contaminants and additives in lubricants or gas turbine fuels, the Spectroil M Oil analysis Spectrometer is designed specifically for your application. The latest addition to Spectro Inc.'s family of emission spectrometers, it is compact, rugged, transportable and easy-to-use oil analysis spectrometer.

The Spectroil M is just what you might expect from the company that pioneered the world's first mobile emission oil analysis spectrometer. Because it is routinely operated in remote locations as well as in the laboratory, the Spectroil M has become a standard mobile spectrometer for on-site commercial oil analysis and the DoD Joint Oil Analysis Program (JOAP), NATO and many of the world's armed forces.

The Spectroil M has been designed to meet or exceed the analytical requirement of Military Standard MIL-S-8129A. Rugged, easy-to-use, stable and accurate under severe environmental conditions, its features reflect field experience gained from hundreds of Spectroil mobile spectrometers now used by the militaries of the world.

The Spectroil M/C complies with ASTM D6595 Standard Method for Determination of Wear Metals and Contaminants in Used Lubricating Oils or Used Hydraulic Fluids by Rotating Disc Electrode Atomic Emission Spectrometry.

The Spectroil M/F complies with ASTM D6728 Standard Method for Determination of Contaminants in Gas Turbine and Diesel Engine Fuel by Rotating Disc Electrode Atomic Emission Spectrometry.

The Spectroil M uses the time tested and well established rotating disk electrode (RDE) method, still the best means available to analyze wear metals, contaminants and additives in lubricants and greases and most fuels. The method, which undergoes continual improvements, is key to Spectroil's many features.

The Spectroil M provides fast and accurate analysis of lubricants and fuels. In typical operation, a small sample of the oil or fuel (approximately 2 ml) is introduced for analysis via a rotating graphite disk electrode. An electric arc created in the gap between the disk electrode and a rod counter electrode completely volatilizes the sample, creating a plasma which emits light characteristic of the elements in the sample. Operation is extremely simple - the analysis takes approximately 30 seconds.
