Agawam Council, as an organization, has a number of Committees to carry out its responsibilities to the operation of Board functions. They are:
Development Committee - The Development Committee is responsible for the raising of funds sufficient to carry out the corporate purpose, broadly defined. The committee works with the Executive Director, the Director of Development and Alumni Relations, and the Communications and Alumni Relations Committee in soliciting funds for the endowment, the Main Idea, camperships, preservation, and other capital initiatives.

Finance Committee - The Finance Committee is responsible for the planning and oversight of the financial and investment affairs of the Corporation. The committee’s financial duties include budget preparation, reviewing operating performance, arranging for independent audits and reviews, assuring corporate conformity with state and federal tax laws, and planning and oversight of the investment strategy of the Council.
The Budget Sub-Committee is charged with overseeing the development of the annual Council budget and its implementation.
The Investment Sub-Committee - The Investment Sub-Committee is charged with overseeing the investment of the Council’s endowment, preservation and other funds according to the investment policies set forth by the full Board and in light of monetary requirements and long-range plans.
The Audit Sub-Committee - The Audit Sub-Committee is responsible for providing oversight assistance to the Agawam Council Board in fulfilling its fiduciary responsibility and accountability.

Plant Committee - The Plant Committee is charged with oversight of the physical assets of the Corporation with regard to the real property of the camp, and the development of long-term plans for capital needs. It collaborates with the Director of Council Operations in updating the maintenance and replacement schedule for infrastructure and in planning major facility improvements.

Communications & Alumni Relations Committee - The Communications and Alumni Relations Committee is charged with the responsibility of communicating the essence of Agawam today, its needs, and the plan for the future to Agawam’s constituency. It reviews plans for all communications vehicles designed for the Agawam family, maintaining alumni records, and organizing reunions and other alumni activities. The committee also helps create marketing strategies to help assure reliable and effective recruitment of high quality campers and staff.

Human Resources & Evaluation Committee - The Human Resources and Evaluation Committee facilitates the annual evaluation of the Director of Council Operations by the Board members, with and for the Agawam Council President and Executive Committee. The committee also conducts an evaluation of the Board itself, based upon Board member input, and assists in the development of evaluation criteria and techniques for other Council staff. The committee assists the organization and the Director of Council Operations to develop and maintain an equitable and appropriate benefits package for the paid staff. The committee facilitates communication between the Board and the full time staff as necessary, and provides structure and oversight to insure successful transitions for key staff and Board leaders.

Governance Committee - The Governance Committee is responsible for the identification of individuals to serve as members of the Agawam Council. In consultation with the Board, Director of Council Operations, and Director of Development and Alumni Relations, the committee nominates individuals to be members of the Board of Directors, Officers of the Corporation, Trustees Emeriti and/or new committee members. The President appoints the chairmen and members of standing committees. The committee also concerns itself with matters of governance and ethics.

Long Range Planning Committee – The Long Range Planning Committee reviews the organization and structure of Agawam Council as defined in the By-Laws and presently implemented by the Board of Directors. The committee is responsible for the maintenance and updating of the Long Range Plan (LRP) by facilitating the relationship between the Executive Director and the Board of Directors and integrating Standing Committee ideas and Board decisions into the LRP.

Program Committee - The Program Committee is responsible for the oversight and evaluation of activities conducted on the properties of Agawam Council. The committee reviews the Camp Director’s plans for program duration, enrollment, staff development, and recommendations for program improvement. It also conducts research on program expansion and explores opportunities for facility utilization beyond the traditional camp season.
