Research Overview
We are interested in the mechanism of cell crawling. Because of the indispensability for the maintenance of cell shape and cell motility filamin, a major actin-binding protein, is a molecule on which we are focusing. The mutations of filamin have been reported to cause a wide range of developmental malformations of brain and bone in human. In order to understand the molecular mechanisms of how filamin is involved in these biological processes and diseases, we are currently and have been working on the following projects.
1) Regulation of filamin-actin interaction.
2) Structure of filamin in the complex with its binding partners.
3) Mechanical properties of filamin-actin network in vitro and in vivo.
4) Dynamics of filamin and its partners in actin networks.
5) Filamin-mediated mechanotransduction.
