Occupational Therapy combines movement disciplines to help people regain, develop, and build skills for independent functioning, health, well-being, security and happiness.
Occupational Therapists integrate knowledge from human physiology, gross anatomy, neuroanatomy, kinesiology, pathology and prevention, as well as other areas of study, to get a patient functioning as they were before their injury.
One of the main pluses of Occupational Therapy is that it addresses issues before they become full-blown problems. Occupational Therapy is a great preventive approach. You can live your life at an optimal level, and continue to perform the functions that give your life meaning.
When you work with an OT you will be examined from a holistic point of view. We will ask you questions such as What is stopping you from performing meaningful activities? What is important to you? Are you having a hard time performing in a job that is physically demanding? Are you sitting at a desk and working at a computer most of the day, and suffering from back, shoulder or wrist pain? Are you a new parent suffering from postural issues from picking up the baby, putting the baby in the car seat, or breast feeding? Do you have a hard time keeping up with your children or grandchildren? Are you a runner and suffering from joint pain or overuse injuries? Did you hurt your back or shoulder the first time golfing in the season?
By analyzing your answers, I can take action to prevent a tweak from becoming something bigger.
