eriously ill children spend a tremendous amount of time in hospitals, although hospitals try to be as cheery as possible, we realize that sometimes kids, teens and parents just need a place to take a break and revitalize themselves.       To answer this need, Starlight decided to create environments that would give them a chance to escape for a moment or an hour or more. We call them Starlight Sites or Places. They are state-of-the-art rooms or a designated area within the hospital.        A Starlight Sites contain any number of features including new furniture, cabinetry, play structures, computers, a large screen television, VCR, Nintendo game systems, a stereo, games, arts and craft supplies, books and so much more!        We are currently in the process of placing our first Starlight Site at Carney Hospital in Dorchester and will begin the planning process in the near future for three more at Boston Medical Center, Franciscan Children’s Hospital and Dana Farber. The cost for these rooms can range from $10,000 to over $100,000.        Starlight Sites are also often used for parties and performance spaces for visiting clowns, magicians or musician. It is a flexible, fun and peaceful place that meets a variety of needs for the patients and hospital administrators.        Starlight Sites can be utilized by architectural and interior firms as showcase portfolio pieces.        Sponsoring a Starlight Site gives the donor a permanent prominence in the hospital… and gives a child a safe escape.
